Jeffery Bryce Edmister from Painted Post, NY overcame a three shot deficit after Round 1 to win the Overall Boys Division of the New York State Junior PGA Championship at Leatherstocking Golf Course
Edmister trailed first round leader Jeff Baldetti from Skaneateles, NY by three strokes going into the final round. Edmister proved he was going to fight for the championship trophy by going out in even par 35 on the first nine holes. On the final nine, he eagled the 462 yard par 5 to offset two bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. He also birdied the final hole to offset his bogey on the demanding par 3 17th hole. His determination lead to a even par 72-72 144 to win the Overall Boy's Division by three shots over second place finisher Steve Quillinan Jr. from Troy, NY (71-76-147). Edmister, with his victory, earns an exempion into the 2009 New York State Junior PGA Championship. Edmister also won the Boy's 15-18 Age Division and Joe Drummond from Pittsford, NY won the Boy's 12-14 age division with scores of 85-77-162.
In the Overall Girl's Division, Harin Lee from Bayside, NY defend her title by taking home the Champions trophy for the second consecutive year by posting scores of 78-78-156. Lee's round was highlighted by three consecutive birdies on the par five 11th, the par three 12th, and the par four 13th which proved to the the margin of victory. Finishing in second place was Nicole Morales from Mount Kisco, NY with her scores of 81-78-159. Lee also won the Girl's 15-18 Age Division and Morales won the Girl's 12-14 Age Division. With Lee's Victory in the Overall Girl's Division, She again will earn an exempion into the 2009 NEwYork State Junior PGA Championship.
This event is conducted with the help of all four New York PGA Sections, Central New York PGA, Metropolitian PGA, Northeastern New York PGA, and Western New York PGA. Each section invites it's top 15 juniors (ten boys and five girls) to compete in this event. Any junior interested in their PGA Section Junior Golf Program should contact their Section Office.
