Golf Daze by Al Mottau

Dr. Gary Wiren is truly a golf educator.  Ever since his graduation from the University of Oregon with his PHD, golf has encompassed his life.

He was one of the first golf professionals to be recognized by the PGA of America as a master Certified Teacher.  Not only is he recognized and admired for his teaching abilities in this country but also his reputation extends outside our boundaries including the Swedish Golf Union, The Italian Golf Federation, the New Zealand PGA and the Japanese PGA.

A prolific writer, he has written or participated in the writing of over 200magazine articles and 11 books.  His latest is When Golf is a Ball was selected "the best golf book in 2004."  He has taught over 250,000 in 34 countries.  All this was done while he was actively involved in key positions within the golf industry.  Wiren served the PGA of America for 12 years and was the Director of Education of the PGA for the PGA Hall of Fame.

I've been at meetings with Dr. Wiren over the years and served with him on several committees at the International Network of Golf Organizations of which we are both members. A dynamic individual it is easy to see why he is sought after as a keynote speaker at International Golf Summits and why he is always listed among the top 100 golf teachers in the country.

Dr. Wiren has come up with a number of "quotable quotes" and "Gary's Golfing Laws" that I would like to share with you.  As avid golfers I'm sure you can relate to all of them.

GOLF'S QUOTABLE QUOTES

"You must work hard to become a natural golfer."
"Tennis is murderous, you want to kill your opponent.  Golf is suicide, you want to kill yourself."
"Golf's a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what your experience tells you to do and what your nerves will let you do."
"Golf is like a love affair.  If you don't take it seriously it is no fun.. and if you do, it breaks your heart."
"Golf is a game of finding what works, losing it and trying to find it again."
"The ardent golf would play Mt. Everest if someone would put a flagstick on it."
"The golf swing is like a suitcase into which we are trying to stuff too many items."
"It is hard to hit a good 5 iron when you are thinking of a 6 iron on your backswing."
"You don't have the game you played last year, or even last week.  You only have today's game.  It may be far from your best, but when that's all you got, harden your heart and make the best of it."
"You don't normally have to be a good golfer to be a good putter.  But you do have to be a good putter to be a good golfer."
"Pain and suffering are inevitable in golf, but misery is a choice."

Gary's Golfing Laws

1 The practice putting green is either half as fast or twice as fast as all the greens on the course.
2 The worse your drive is stymied, the more perfectly it would have played on the previous hole.
3 A ball will always travel farthest when hit in the wrong direction.
4 Your straightest iron shot of the day will be exactly one club short.
5 The odds seem to be that you can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time.
6 A ball hit to the wrong green will always be within gimme range of the cup.
7  No matter how early your tee times, there will always be a foursome in the middle of your first fairway.
8 You get either the youngest caddie or the oldest golf cart, and neither works.

New Products

Sunbuster sunglasses: After wearing regular glasses for 40 years, I found a new product by Sunbuster that changed my golf vision dramatically.  The glasses are also the hit of the PGA and Celebrity tours.

The new GolfCorrect lenses are optically designed and ground to eliminate one of the most common problems facing golfers who wear ordinary sunglasses while they play.  It's called Eye-Plane Shift Distortion or ESD. A proper golf set up posture requires that the chin be lifted so that the shoulders can rotate freely during the swing. This lifting of the chin makes it necessary for the golfer to lower his eyes and look through the bottom half of the lens in order to see the golf ball.  This causes a distortion if you're wearing ordinary sunglasses.  Sunbuster's new GolfCorrect lenses however are designed to accommodate this downward shift in the Eye-Plane giving the golfer a clean crisp undistorted view of the golf ball.  Golf Correct Technology allows golfers to wear their sunglasses at all times during their round.  It is the first company in the golf industry to address this issue and the lenses are unlike anything else on the market right now.

In addition to the new GolfCorrect technology, there is a Putt readers lens for golfers. (It is the lens I'm using.) This lens selectively filters light in the visible spectrum you can see the fairways, pins and putting surfaces with perfect clarity, contour definition, color separation, and depth perception. Golf is a game of contours.  The new PuttReaders lens technology is specially designed to bring out those contours and eliminate the guesswork normally involved in reading a green.  With this technology on your side, fewer puts per round and lower scores are just around the corner.  However, if you are color blind, you cannot use them.

The sunglasses are not available as yet in our pro shops.  For further information call toll-free 866-786-2878.  The suggested retail cost: $100 - $200 depending on the lens.  When you mention capitalareagolf.com you will get 20% off.
