NENY PGA SECTION TO BEGIN ADMINISTERING LOCAL CAPITAL
REGION AMATEUR GOLF ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENTS

The Northeastern New York Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America will administer a tournament “pilot” series this year for the local area amateur golfers involved in the Capital Region Amateur Golf Association.  The main purpose for the section to expand tournament services to the amateur group is to continue to meet the organization’s mission to promote interest, participation, enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf.

The section will offer resources in the areas of organized office administration with mainstream technology including email and a website to offer one centralized location to disperse communications regarding the “pilot” tournament series and other local amateur tournaments in addition to expert staff and PGA Professional tournament administration on site. The section will house one centralized amateur database of names and contact information of which the local amateur body was lacking formerly.

The “pilot” series will include a minimum of four tournaments made up of two 18-hole stroke play events, a combination PGA Professional and amateur team event and a season ending 18-hole stroke play points challenge event.  Each of the tournaments will have player of the year points associated with them as part of the Capital Region Amateur Golf Association’s points race to determine the year’s best golfer in competition.

Amateur member’s will be charged a fee of $25 for joining the association but will receive the benefits of advanced technology provided by the section including online tournament registration, email blast reminders, posted tournament starting times and results along with updated postings of the player of the year points standings. Eligibility will not be limited in the “pilot” tournament series, but amateurs who join the new association will also receive a benefit of a lower tournament fee per event.

The section is home to nearly 180 PGA members and apprentices. PGA members are the expert teachers, players, merchandisers, golf business managers and facility operators, educators, and community leaders. The NENY PGA Section conducts a very successful Junior Golf Association and Junior Golf Tour for kids ages 8-18 and the new “pilot” series for amateurs is a natural progression for the section to administer.

For a complete tournament schedule of all amateur tournaments or to learn more and register into the new Capital Region Amateur Golf Association membership to ensure you become part of the database to receive notifications on local happenings, please go to www.neny.pga.com or call the section office at 518-438-8645.
